Meet the HERTZELS

Rabbi Mendy and Rivky Hertzel, along with their children Levi and Moishy, have established Chabad of Zambia, aspiring to create a warm and welcoming environment for the Jewish population in the country.

Rabbi MendY HERTZEL

Born and raised in the Golan Heights, Rabbi Mendy Hertzel studied in Rabbinical schools in the US, Israel.
After completing his studies, he was ordained by Rabbi Yitzchak Yeruslavsky Chief Rabbi of Kiryat Malachi, Israel.

Rabbi Mendy has always been active from a young age volunteering with outreach programs during his yeshiva years and working with Jewish youth.  As a student he would spend his Friday afternoons visiting Jewish shopkeepers sharing with them a Jewish thought or the chance to put on Tefillin. As his studies grew so did his commitment to enriching the lives of Jewish people.

As an intern Rabbi, he guided countless young Yeshiva students in Yeshivas Menachem Mendel Michigan, studying one on one and giving lectures in Talmud and Chassidic philosophy.

Mrs. RIVKY HERTZEL

Hailing from Anchorage, Alaska, Rivky was raised in an open home where Jewish outreach was the daily routine, and was constantly involved in assisting and eventually creating activities for children and teens.

Rivky went on to study in Michigan and Israel, studying Teaching and Education, as well as Judaic studies.

As a successful teacher and program director she worked in multiple Chabad schools and Jewish Center’s, including Brooklyn, Michigan, and North Carolina.

Rivky spent her summers directing large overnight and day camps for various Jewish institutions in Florida, Ohio, and South Carolina.
